Wildwood’s Story
Founded in 1960 as Victory Baptist Church, Principal Leader and Organizer, Rev. Doyle C. Lawson, felt there was a need in the Temple area for an Independent, Fundamental, Premillennial, Missonary Baptist Church. Soon the group of five charter members began to grow and purchased some land at the corner of Midaway Drive and Interstate Highway 35. The new land and building site located on the Southern edge of the City of Temple was located within what many called the Twin Cities area between Temple and Belton. It was at this time that the name of the church was changed to Twin Cities Baptist Church. Rev. Doyle C. Lawson served The Lord faithfully for many years in varying capacities, most notably as a Visionary, Pastor, and Missionary. Rev. Doyle served The Lord at Twin Cities for twenty seven years before his untimely passing. Thankfully Bro. Doyle’s Brother, Elton M. Lawson stepped in at this time to carry on his Brother’s work in The Lord. Pastor Elton Lawson courageously lead the church for twenty seven years retiring in September of 2014. As God would have it and with Pastor Elton Lawson’s obedient heart, and vision for growth, our church was re-planted as Wildwood Baptist Church in 2011. Our new location at 5195 Cedar Creek Road, Temple, Texas, has proved to be the will of God, as Wildwood has been growing in Spirit and Number ever since. We are exceedingly thankful for God’s Love, Favor, and Guidance, as well as the wonderful Under Shepherd He gave us in Pastor Elton. Due to the diligence and great effort of Rev. Elton Lawson Wildwood Baptist Church is enjoying a time of great favor and prosperity. Now many fruitful years later Wildwood continues on for the glory of The Lord, under the care of Pastor and Teacher, M. Jared Morris.
